title - Where do we meet

RISC Centre - Monthly Socials

Below is a map of how to get to the meeting room at the rear of the RISC centre in Reading:

Map of RISC Centre.

Reading International Solidarity Centre (RISC)
RISC is located near the centre of Reading, within sight of the Oracle Shopping Centre. To find it on London Street - look for a colourful cafe and World Crafts shop. An alley way down the right side of the shop will take you through to the back entrance of the building where we hold our meeting in the largest of the rooms. Cyclists can chain their bikes to railings outside the rear entrance.

An alternative, and better lit way to reach the rear entrance of RISC is to walk up the pedestrian steps on Queens Road between two office buildings into the private car park area and then immediatley turn right up a concrete car ramp (see enlarged map above). Queens Road car park is recommended for parking as it is well lit and patrolled by security guards until late at night, it costs £2 to park for the evening. There may also be some parking available on London Steet or behind the RISc centre in South Street and East Street.

Other locations

Below is a rough map of Reading in Berkshire, showing the locations of the Forbury Gardens, Sweeney and Todds and RISC Centre:

Sweeney & Todds
Sweeney's Pie shop is located on Castle Street. The group will normally be sitting at the back of the shop in the covered garden area. At least two committee members will always be present at these get togethers. Look out for a copy of the group name displayed on the table. The food at the shop is particularly recommended.

Hill Meadow Car Park
People wanting to go on walks will generally meet at the Hill Meadow car park, if stated in the programme. We used to meet at the Forbury but that is now closed for pedestrianisation. To reach the Hill Meadow car park drive towards the Railway Station and proceed north over Reading Bridge towards Caversham. Once over the bridge turn first right into the car park.

The walks leader will then arrange for people to share lifts to the start of the walk. Cars may be left here during that time, although it is recommended that you do not leave anything valuable in view. Reading's town centre has a complex and ever changing system on one way roads - so if you are not familiar with them do ask the walks leader for clarification on how to reach the car park.

Caversham Bridge
Cycle rides will either leave from the west side of Caversham Bridge or just below it besides the Rowing Club. Check the program to find out the exact departure point.
