MAY 2006

Wed 3rd         Pub Evening at Sweeney and Todds

For a pie and a pint from 8:00pm.

Thu 4th           Evening Bluebell Walk – 4-5 miles

Meet 7pm at the Fox pub, Cane End on A4074 N of Reading, GR679795.  Pub grub after if required.

Sat 6th            Ridgeway Walk – 20 and 40 mile options

Also volunteers needed to help marshal and assist at Streatley Hostel.

Sun 7th           Visit to Savill Garden, Windsor Great Park

Admission costs £4.50.

Tue 9th           Evening Walk – 3.5 miles

Prompt 7:00pm start from George and Dragon PH, GR736646, near Swallowfield.

Wed 10th       Evening Bike Ride

To the Bell at Aldworth.

Mon 15th        Social – New Members Evening

Slide show of recent group events.  Starts 7.30pm at the RISC Centre.

Wed 17th       Play – Habeas Corpus by Alan Bennett

7:45pm at Woodley Theatre.

Thu 18th         New Members Evening Walk

Meet at Goring village CP, GR 600807, at 6:45pm (18:24 train x Reading) for 3 mile hilly walk.

Fri 19th           Film – Walk the Line

Meet at South Hill Park, 7:45pm for film, 6:00pm for food/drinks.

Sat 20th         Round Reading Walk – 7 miles

Sonning Common to Henley.  Meet at Reading station 15 mins before 09:32 bus (No 138)

Sun 21st         Cycle Ride and Walk – Dinton Pastures

Meet at Wokingham station at 2.00pm for cycle ride or 3.00pm at Dinton Pastures if you just want the walk.

Tue 23rd         Summer Evening Mountain Bike

Meet car park opposite Horse and Groom pub, Mortimer, 7.00pm for a local MTB, distance to suit (8-12ish miles), not too hilly/difficult, finishing with a pint

Fri 26th – Mon 29th   Hostel Weekend in Snowdonia

Bank Holiday weekend in hostel in North Wales. Hard and easy walking options, plus bike rides

 

JUNE 2006

Fri 2nd             Indian Meal at Spice Oven, Caversham

Sun 4th           16 mile walk with hills in Hambledon Valley

8:45am Hills Meadow or 9:15am Hambledon Village CP. Bring packed lunch

Mon 5th          Social – Cycling & Scrambling in Sutherland

Slide show and talk. 7:30pm at the RISC centre.

Tue 6th           Summer Evening Mountain Bike

Meet Seven Starts pub lay-by, Knowl Hill near Maidenhead 7.00pm for a local MTB, as 23rd May

Wed 7th         Al Murray Pub Landlord

Adult humour. 8:00pm Hexagon in Reading

Fri 9th             15 miles overnight Walk on Ridgeway

White Horse to Barbury Castle, under near full moon.

Sat 10th         Conservation Day – Omers Gully Wood

Meet 10:00am at location in Hunters Hill outside Burghfield Common. Bring packed lunch

Sun 11th        Open Garden Squares in London

Meet 9:15am Reading station ticket office

Wed 14th       Evening Bike Ride

To the Sun at Witherage Hill.

Thur 15th       Film – Capote at Reading Film Theatre

Meet 7:30 Palmer Building, Reading Univ.

Fri 16th – Sun 18th     Camping at Tal-y-bont

South Wales – cycle or walks in Brecon Beacons area or along the canal.

Sun 25th        Capital Ring Walk Stage 5 – 12 miles

Greenford to Hendon. Train times tbc.

Wed 28th       Pub Evening in Goring

8:00pm onwards at King Charles Head, Goring.

 

JULY 2006

Sun 2nd          Walk around Theale Lake – 6 miles

Meet 10:00am at the Six Bells in Burghfield Village. Optional Pub Lunch afterwards

Mon 3rd          Social – From Peru to Libya

Slide show and talk on Peru and Libya. Starts 7:30pm at the RISC centre.

Fri 7th - Sun 9th     Hostelling Weekend in Mid Wales

Stay at Tyncornel on Friday night, walk to Dolgoch to stay Saturday night.

Tue 11th         Evening Walk – 4 miles

Meet at 7:00pm on pavement outside main entrance to Reading station. Historical sites and buildings and along Kennet and Thames

Sun 16th       5 mile walk – Stoke Row

Meet 9:30am Cherry Tree pub, GR675842, pub lunch

Tue 18th         Evening Bike Ride

To the Pot Kiln, Frilsham Common

Wed 19th       Pub Evening at Sweeney and Todds

Sat 22nd         Silchester Roman Town Open Day

Visit archaeological dig. Meet 2:00pm Silchester CP, GR 636628

Sun 23rd        Day Cycle in Cotswolds

50 mile option starts in Letchlade. 100 mile faster option starts in Blewbury. Morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea

Meet 7:00pm at The George on Loddon Bridge and then to the Showcase Cinema, Winnersh

Sat 5th            Day Trip to Warwick Castle

Mon 7th          Social – Cycling in Vietnam

Slide show and talk. Starts 7:30pm at the RISC centre.

Wed 9th         Evening Bat Walk in High Wycombe

8:00pm for 2 hour walk from environment centre to Funges Meadow in search of bats, bring a torch

Thur 10th       Evening Bike Ride

To the Unicorn, Peppard Common

Fri 11th – Sat 12th Friday Night Chill Out - Ridgeway Hostel

Spend a relaxing evening at Ridgeway hostel. Next morning stroll along Ridgeway and back to hostel for late lunch and cafe. Self-book Friday night at hostel ASAP, camp with own tent or hire tipi

Mon 14th        Evening Walk – 4.5 miles

Meet 7:00pm Seven Stars pub, Knowl Hill, GR 822794.

Wed 16th       Pub Evening at Sweeney and Todds

Sun 20th        Capital Ring Walk Stage 6 – 11 miles

From Hendon to Stoke Newington. Train times to be confirmed.

Fri 25th – Mon 28th      Bank Holiday Weekend in Dorset

3 nights at Litton Cheney Youth Hostel.
